Continually working to transform clay beyond its
boundaries, Iver and Jennifer Hennig combine their efforts to produce
a unique body of work. Their stoneware pieces are created individually
to have both the functionality of pottery and the artistic expression
of sculpture. The collaborative body of work has a representational element
as it plays with natural forms. A respect for clay and a sense of enjoyment
and humor can be found with their one-of-a-kind pieces. They enjoy the
progression of their imagination in their work in hoping to redefine the
view of stoneware designs. Conceived from a sense of possibilities, Live
Clay Pottery started with Iver Hennig moving back to Boulder Creek after
graduating from Humboldt State University in 1995 to join Jennifer Mathews,
who was already living in Boulder Creek. They found a small mountain shack
with a leaky garage and trasformed it into a workable studio. Even though
the house was riddled with rats and the roof leaked continually, they
made do and even were able to produce some interesting work in those early
years. In the time spent together in the studio, the two young artists
began to develop their skills and create a line of pottery. After a few
years, Live Clay Pottery was able to relocate to a new studio on the other
side of the river. In 1999, Iver and Jennifer were married and a few months
later Dahlela was born. Meeting the new challenges of being a family,
they continue to strive harder to push the envelope on modern ceramics. |
